Roxas has taken this path before, this sharp curve of luminous white. His lips burn tracks into sandstone skin, over the jut of a thin shoulder and into the soft hollows of a slender neck. Filigree fingers pass through tall reeds, spikes of hair a scarlet gash across his palm. Breath whispers across the slope of his cheekbone, subtle like shifting grains along a sand dune.

He has taken this path before, but has never ventured beyond that desultory plane. He always pauses, pushes himself into the shadows beneath Axel’s jaw, afraid that if he continues he will forget even why he searches for his other self.
